Murdoch Apologizes

Rupert Murdoch, who not only owns The New York Post, but Fox News as well, had an apology printed in his racist newspaper:

Murdoch apology
Murdoch apology

I wonder how long before the next racist outrage show up in his paper or tv station. He still claims that the whole uproar came as a surprise to him. And he still places the onus on those who felt offended.  He does not accept responsibility for publishing a racist cartoon.  He is stating that some readers thought it was racist!  This is no apology,… it’s a continuation of the denial.

  1. A cowardly and PC move.
YOU know and we all know that the cartoon was NOT racist.

It’s a stupid, stupid game played by yourself and others to yell out racism when there is none. By doing so you diminish real acts of racism and cause actual racism to be taken less seriously than it should be.

    Shame on you.

  2. I guess it depends on your definition of racism, and who you are doesn’t it?

I mean if you’ve never been the target of racism it’s probably a lot harder to recognize it and see it. Calling someone n*****, or dragging a person behind a car, or lynching them are overt, but no more racist than someone pulling their purse closer to them when a black person sits near them, or referring to them as monkeys such as this.

No, the shame is on you, for not knowing history, and for pretending that racism is not racism. With your help, we can perpetuate it.

  3. Can you explain how this cartoon was targeted at Obama or any other black person?

You know that Obama did not write one single letter of the stimulus package.
That being the fact, then the dead monkey could not be representative of Barack Obama.
That also being fact, then where is the racism?

Am I to believe that every image of a monkey is a reference to black persons?

I know history and our history is disgustingly racist, our present is far less so.
Racism will never be gone in whole.

I also know that when you call out racism when there is none present is called lying, deflection, victomhood.

Why would you let a cartoon, especially one that was not targeting a specific person of any color, define you?

The intent of the cartoon was clear to any one who pays attention to the world they live in.

Al Sharpton and those like him look for and create victims where ever they can.
You are looking to be a victim and doing so based upon a falsehood.

You, yes you, should be ashamed of yourself.

  4. Am I to believe that every image of a monkey is a reference to black persons?.

This is just plain silly. Obviously gleaned from the blackinformant website you referenced. It is context the makes it racist.

    from the NAACP Public Statement:

The New York Post and Fox News have a history of racially insensitive reporting. With the support of the editor in chief, the cartoonist Sean Delonas has published numerous vile cartoons tinged with racism. Fox News was widely criticized during the elections for calling Michelle Obama “Obama’s baby mama” and terming the affectionate and common fist bump between then-candidate Obama and his wife, a “terrorist fist jab” at a time when death threats against the candidate were at an all time high for any presidential candidate.

The New York Post stands alone from most daily newspapers in refusing to report its diversity numbers to the American Society of Newspaper Editors. One has to wonder how many Hispanic or African American reporters and editors are working at the New York Post? Clearly, with more diversity in its newsrooms, it’s likely the paper would have been able to understand the deeply offensive nature of the cartoon. Our guess is that the numbers are abysmally low for a newspaper serving a city with a population as diverse as New York.

It has just been 10 years ago that Amadou Diallo was gunned down and killed by NYC police with 41 one bullets. Of course there is also, the more recent killing of Sean Bell. If you’re interested, you can find more information on the Sean Bell incident on Wikipedia with references from numerous papers and reporters. I have yet to see this type of incident in other than a minority neighborhood.

There’s a difference between victimization and a highly developed sense of awareness.

Oh, one last thing before I end this:

You know that Obama did not write one single letter of the stimulus package.
That being the fact, then the dead monkey could not be representative of Barack Obama.
That also being fact, then where is the racism?

Who wrote the tax cuts for the wealthy? Was it bush? He didn’t write one single word of it. Who encouraged and pushed for those cuts?

    Your logic is flawed.

  5. I have a post up on my home page this weekend about Murdoch that you may enjoy. When I found the information, it made my eyes open.
